Music Venue Trust partners with Help Musicians, Karousel Music, Collage Arts, Attitude is Everything, Movimientos and Youth Music for Fundraising Prize Draw

7 vinyl copies of the ultra-limited edition John Lennon & Yoko Ono classic ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)’

Today Music Venue Trust has united with Help Musicians, Karousel Music, Collage Arts, Attitude is Everything, Movimientos and Youth Music for a festive prize draw of 7 copies of the rare, limited edition vinyl acetate of John Lennon & Yoko Ono’s iconic single ‘Happy Xmas (War is Over)’ (with The Plastic Ono Band and The Harlem Community Choir). The winners will be announced on December 24th via Facebook livestream by CEO of the Music Venue Trust, Mark Davyd, and James Ainscough, CEO of Help Musicians UK.

Only 50 of the edition have been produced to celebrate the track’s 50th anniversary; each hand cut by mastering engineer Alex Wharton of Abbey Road Studios. 25 of the records have been gifted by Yoko Ono and Sean Ono Lennon to select music charities, non-profits, grassroots organisations in the UK; each receiving a single copy to fundraise for their individual causes.

Each edition is stickered and numbered out of 50 and includes a machine printed signature from Yoko, making them incredibly collectable.

In a note accompanying each record, Sean Ono Lennon says:

“Happy Xmas. This is one of only fifty Limited Edition acetates hand-cut at Abbey Road, it’s yours – to sell, auction, raise money to help your business or your favourite charity or to fund your Xmas party – to spread Xmas cheer. We’d love to see the journey these acetates take, and the goodwill that they spread – please use the hashtag #HappyXmasVinyl and we’ll retweet and share their progress on Social Media to help promote the good causes and good vibes.”

Music Venue Trust, Help Musicians, Karousel Music, Collage Arts, Attitude is Everything, Movimientos and Youth Music were each gifted a copy and will be making the 7 editions available via a Crowdfunder campaign that launches today. In order to be in with a chance of winning, entrants must head to the Crowdfunding page and make a minimum donation of £5, with each £5 increment giving the buyer an extra entry into the prize draw (up to a maximum of £50 / 10 entries).

Originally released in December 1971 ‘Happy Xmas (War is Over)’ has evolved to become an iconic global Christmas classic and is now one of the most played and popular Christmas songs of all time. The song’s WAR IS OVER! (IF YOU WANT IT) chorus echoes an ongoing campaign of activism by John & Yoko who also used the title for billboard and flyer campaigns in prominent positions around the world, an initiative Yoko continues to the present day.
