The Carnabys announced for Music Venue Trust ‘Fightback’ gig at Roundhouse

Music Venue Trust is proud to announce The Carnabys as the first confirmed act for its FIGHTBACK event at The Roundhouse, London on Tuesday 18th October. Special EARLY BIRD tickets priced at just £10 will remain on sale until 10am Thursday 22 Sept, after which the price will rise to £15.

FIGHTBACK is a one-off evening of music is to raise funds for a new nationwide service from Music Venue Trust (MVT) to provide legal and expert advice to any Grassroots Music Venue under threat of closure.

The closure of Fabric and the ongoing situation with Passing Clouds has highlighted the extent of the threat that British music faces; music venues of all genres are under attack from developers and local authorities. Urgent action is needed and that what this event is all about. Mark Davyd of MVT says “We are confident that we can pull together a fantastic event even though time is not on our side. Since Friday’s announcement my inbox has melted with offers of support, and people have been flooding social media in support of the cause.”

Jack Mercer, The Carnabys

Jack Mercer from The Carnabys commented “As soon as we saw MVT announce this show, we got straight on to them. For us this is an ongoing cause; we have been shocked at the number of iconic venues that have shut in the last few years. Venues that our music heroes played at and that we had hoped to play at ourselves are now gone forever. So it was a no-brainer to volunteer to play; we have a great London fanbase and having seen the support they gave us with our ‘Too Much, Never Enough’ album campaign we know they will get behind us to help Music Venue Trust again – we can’t wait!”

Mark Davyd, Music Venue Trust

Mark Davyd said “The Carnabys stepped straight up to the plate and volunteered for the night. They’re one of an exciting new generation of young bands coming through that are taking a completely DIY approach. Their recent #savelivemusic campaign, where they donated all of their earnings from their latest album to MVT, made them an obvious choice for our first announcement; they’re not the biggest band we’ve been contacted by, but as young musicians trying to build a career, they’ve got something to say about this issue and this cause.

This is who we need music venues for – bands like The Carnabys. This is what it’s all about, protecting these venues for new and emerging bands. Having seen several pictures of the queue down the road to get into their Camden show last week, we know that they can sell tickets. And that is what this FIGHTBACK Event is all about; selling tickets to raise the funds to directly stop music venue closures.”
